The new Mercedes SL Roadster will be sold exclusively as AMG

Mercedes-Benz is launching a new SL roadster later this year and, to whet our appetites, has launched a series of “spy photos” taken by itself of the car being tested in winter in Sweden. The company also confirmed some notable details about the upcoming grand tourer: It will be sold exclusively as a model with the AMG emblem and will be the first SL to offer four-wheel drive.

In fact, the 4Matic + AWD system in question is undergoing the final adjustment on the snowy Swedish terrain that you see in these photos. The cold environment is also being used to test the car’s redesigned hood. If you can keep the cold so close to the Arctic Circle, you should be able to do it anywhere. Once it is completed in Sweden, however, Mercedes says it still needs to go to the Nürburgring to be attacked by Mercedes-AMG experts because of course it does.

Other things that we can deduce from the photos provided? The hood of the new Mercedes-AMG SL will definitely come in red and black. The car will also have a retractable rear spoiler, quadruple tailpipes and will be able to pull some snow-covered power sliders.

Believe it or not, the current generation R231 SL-Class has been around for almost a decade (the 2020 model still had that flip phone-style keypad on the dashboard, for God’s sake), so it must be replaced a while ago now. Expect this R232 version to completely update the nameplate not only with AWD and new style, but with the latest interior amenities from Mercedes, like MBUX.
