The new funko pop ‘WandaVision’ may suggest Pietro’s true identity

Fans of “WandaVision” remain skeptical that Pietro Maximoff by Evan Peters is the real deal. And in the continuing trend of Marvel merchandise serving as potential spoilers or clues about Disney + MCU shows, a newly revealed Funko figurine seems to suggest that people may be on the right track when it comes to Pietro’s true identity.

Here’s what the packaging looks:

Note the character’s name in quotation marks – “Pietro Maximoff”. It seems like a deliberate choice. Why would quotes be used if was not Pietro himself?

We have long theorized about what Pietro’s whole business is and whether it’s a potential way to introduce Fox’s X-Men to the MCU. The current theory among fans is that Pietro is actually Mephisto, a demonic character who plays an important role in Wanda’s comic book. Although many of the Mephisto tracks are lined up, it does not quite it seems like the obvious answer – the main reason is that, in addition to this series, Marvel did nothing to win Mephisto by arriving at the MCU.

He’s a big villain in the comic book world and he’s likely to have long-term implications for the MCU going forward, even if he’s just “Doctor Strange in the Madness Multiverse”. But unlike Thanos and even Hydra, there was no preparation, no suggestion and no basis prepared for its introduction. Comic book fans know Mephisto, but casual fans have no idea who this guy is and he was never mentioned. It just doesn’t seem like Marvel’s style to present such a big character without premises.

Granted, we also have to consider that “WandaVision” should not be the first entry in Phase 4. So there is a chance that “Black Widow” or “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” would come first, as originally planned, there may be something that would make Mephisto’s theory a little more viable.

Of course, we could be thinking about it too much. Remember that at the opening of last week’s “WandaVision”, the credits listed Pietro Maximoff “As Himself”. The packaging can be a reference to this, especially since Funko is linked to the costume and appearance of the specific episode of Pietro. Or, the meaning of the quotes may be as simple as the fact that the MCU has already established Aaron Taylor Johnson as the legitimate Pietro of the universe. So, even if that It is Pietro Maximoff and not some suspicious character, is not Marvel’s Pietro Maximoff. It’s still Pietro, just a different version. And we already know that he is there because Wanda evoked memories of his dead brother in this alternate reality universe from Westview.

With three episodes of “WandaVision” missing, we will soon find out what the deal with Pietro is. But for now, it’s fun to theorize about all the ways that this character may have come to stay.
