The new Dead by Daylight update remasters half the game and adds settings for color blind

Dead by daylight is preparing for the newest generation of consoles, and developer Behavior Interactive is reworking a significant part of the game with its “Realm Beyond” update. The update brings with it great visual changes in 21 maps, 12 objects that populate the maps (like totems) and a series of small changes in the animations of the characters and visual effects.

According to Mathieu Côté, game director at Dead by daylight, Realm Beyond is a milestone. The behavior is “in the middle of the graphics update process,” and the entire project will last until “mid-next year,” said Côté, although he has not been able to target a specific launch window. The new maps will continue to receive adjustments and changes as players play games and provide feedback on behavior. The developer has already adjusted the lighting to prevent things also dark and are ready to change levels even further for balance changes or bug fixes.

The maps also have little details that match the game’s increasingly complex knowledge, so fans who are behind the story behind all the chaos and murder can keep an eye out for Easter eggs and hints.

Assassins like the Clown and the Nurse have already been updated visually and these changes will continue. “We are prioritizing older models for visual rework. Some of them were made in a completely different texture style – we call it painting, so they were more of a cartoon quality than realistic, ”says Côté. “We are ensuring that you can recognize the silhouette and what makes the character stand out.”

The Realm Beyond focuses on the most important parts of a killer’s appearance, such as his model and visual effects. The gas of the Clown, for an instant, is now more visible and clear. However, there are no current plans to update its exclusive Memento Mori animations.

Finally, Dead by daylight players will be able to adjust colorblind settings with the Realm Beyond update. There will be settings for players who adjust to consider deuteranope (inability to perceive green light), protanope (inability to perceive red light) and tritanope (inability to perceive blue light). This is useful with the game’s UI and the “scratch marks” that survivors leave when running away from an assassin and should make the game much more accessible.
