The musician SOPHIE died.

The innovative artist passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning in Athens.

An official statement provided to Mixmag SOPHIE’s team says SOPHIE died after a sudden accident.

Transgressive, which released SOPHIE’s debut album, ‘Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’, posted a statement on Twitter saying SOPHIE “accidentally slipped and fell” while climbing to watch the full moon.

Glasgow-born SOPHIE was launched on record labels like Numbers. and Huntleys & Palmers and released the debut album ‘Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’ by Transgressive Records in 2018. The album was nominated for Best Dance / Electronic Album at the Grammys in 2019. Earlier this month, the duo Autechre remixed the 2013 track from SOPHIE ‘BIPP’.

Numbers paid tribute on Twitter, saying that “the world has lost an icon of liberation”.
