CES is not normally a big show for smartphones, but that hasn’t stopped Motorola from giving a big update to the entire Moto G line to start the year, along with a new version of Motorola’s more affordable 5G phone.
With the arrival of the new Moto G family and the new Moto One 5G Ace, Motorola will have a range of brands new phones for basically all price ranges below $ 400.
Motorola revived the Moto G Play, which starts at $ 170, as the most accessible device in the group and, although it is quite basic, has most of fundamentals covered. You get one 6.5 inch 1600 x 720 screen (yes, this is HD, not full HD), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 chip, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a very large 5,000 mAh battery.
There’s also a fingerprint sensor built into the Motorola logo on the back, and what looks like two cameras, but it’s actually 1-Moto G Play has a 13 MP main camera and a 2 MP depth camera to help portrait shots. And to top it off, the Moto G Play has a relatively tough matte plastic back with some light water resistance designed to protect against small spills or rain.

Then we come to what may be my favorite phone of the group, the Moto G Power, which maintains the same 5,000 mAh battery used in the Moto G Play, but adds slightly better specifications. Depending on where you get it, G Power will be available in two configurations: a $ 200 model with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, or a $ 250 model with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
Regardless of the configuration chosen, the G Power also features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor, a slightly larger 6.6-inch 1600 x 720 screen, a microSD card tray and three rear cameras (48 MP main, 2 MP macro and a video camera). depth of 2 MP). For me, the G Power it hits the sweet spot on the budget and is able to cover most bases without adding a lot of extra embellishments, although I would have liked to see Motorola include an ultra-wide-angle or telephoto camera in place of this macro lens.
So there is the Moto G Stylus, which starts at $ 300 and does its best be a much more affordable alternative to Samsung’s top of the line Galaxy Note Line. That’s because, although a stylus is included (hidden inside a convenient slot on the side of the phone), it lacks additional wireless buttons or features like Samsung’s S-Pens.
To support all your drawings and notesmeeting needs, Moto updated the Moto Notes app while increasing the screen size of the G Stylus to a 6.8-inch FHD + screen with the GStylus also obtained a small increase in the performance of the G power with a Snapdragon 678 chip and 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage standard. However, with a smaller battery of 4,000 mAh (and a larger screen), don’t expect the G Stylus’s battery life to be as good as that of its less expensive siblings.
However, in the background, the G Stylus has three real cameras: the 48 MP main camera, 8 MP ultra-wide camera and 2 MP macro camera (plus a fourth depth sensor). And instead of one With a fingerprint sensor mounted on the rear, both the G Power and G Stylus have fingerprint readers mounted on the side, located just below the power button and the volume button on the right.
Finally, although technically not part of the Moto G family, there is also the new Moto One 5G Ace. Starting at $ 400, the Moto One 5 Ace is now Motorola’s cheapest 5G phone and $ 100 less than the original Moto One 5G (released last fall), although it comes with the caveat that it only supports sub-6Ghz 5G and not the fastest mmWave 5G. Besides that little detail, the rest of the Moto One 5G Ace specs it looks pretty good for the money. this comes with a Snapdragon 750G chip, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage and a large 5,000 mAh battery, with some retailers also offering a model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
At the front, there’s a 6.7-inch 2400 x 1080 FHD + screen and a 16 MP selfie camera (which is also provided by G Stylus), while at the rear there’s a camera setup similar to the G Stylus, with a 48 MP main camera, 8 MP ultra-wide camera and 2 MP macro camera.
All told, with the new Moto One 5G Ace and Moto G family, it seems that Motorola is trying to swallow even more the budget and market for midsize phones. Moto may have made an extra phone, because if you look at its specs and features, there aren’t as many differences between models as you might expect.
But there are some good consistencies in all these phones, including retaining a 3.5mm audio jack, a clean overview of Android, and improvements to many basic apps and features, like Moto’s night camera mode.
However, I still find it strange that while the Moto One 5G has support for NFC, which you need to use apps like Google Pay, Motorola has stopped adding NFC to any of the cheaper Moto G devices. But what can be even more worrying is that all of these phones will arrive running Android 10, not Android 11, officially launched in September. And although Moto says it will provide an update to Android 11 sometime in the future, this is the only major Android update that any of these phones are scheduled to receive, which is a real bummer for anyone thinking about keeping these phones for more than a year.
But if you’re looking for a new budget phone, Moto the year is starting with several options. The new Moto G family and Moto One Ace 5G will be available unlocked at various retailers starting January 14.
