I don’t know Rob Gough personally or professionally, but I’m here to officially declare that I would like to be your friend.
That’s because he just bought the most expensive baseball card ever sold – a Topps 2952 Mickey Mantle Mint 9 PSA – for $ 5.2 million. And I would like to see it, and maybe borrow it briefly to impress some people:
The last record-breaking baseball card was sold in August 2020, a unique 2009 Bowman Chrome Mike Trout, for $ 3.93 million. Recently, in October, one of these Honus Wagner cards was sold for $ 3.7 million.
Apparently, this particular iteration of the famous Mantle card is the best score 9 yet, according to Jesse Craig, director of business development at the PWCC Marketplace, who helped broker the business. It had only been sold for two years for a mere $ 2.8 million.
So, anyway. To steal. Hit me, man. I won’t breathe on the card or anything. Maybe let me take a selfie with him or something. Or maybe I can find a stock of super-valuable cards if I dig enough in my basement.
