The Morning After: Sonos’ new $ 169 speaker is the smallest ever

If you want a portable speaker, Sonos is looking for anyone who doesn’t already have one. Costing $ 169, Roam is more expensive than many Bluetooth-only portable speakers, but it is also the cheapest speaker from Sonos.

Unlike Move (Sonos’ previous mobile speaker, if not completely portable), Roam has a smaller, narrower design and weighs around a pound. The battery should give 10 hours of playback and automatically goes into low power standby when not in use. There is also protection against dust and water, and you can pair two speakers for portable stereo sound. You can even connect the new speaker to existing Sonos devices in your home, completing your sound system.

Speaker Sonos Roam

Only U.S

The company is tacitly aware that the Bluetooth portable speaker market is incredibly crowded – so Sonos features will be important if it wants to convince many of us to upgrade our existing beach trip speaker. Roam’s versatility, however, is attractive. Let’s see how it sounds.

Pre-orders for Roam are now open and the speaker will be available on April 20th.

Google

Google’s own operating system, Chrome OS, is getting a host of features and some new styles to celebrate a decade of existence. It’s a good time to strike: Chromebooks have never been more popular. Phone Hub may be the most useful update. It’s a small panel that accesses the phone’s controls so you can see the status of things like battery life and data connectivity. You can connect to your Android device when you lose it and also enable tethering remotely with one click. We unveiled all the new features right here. Keep reading.

Bose

Bose is well known for its excellent sound headphones. The company’s latest buttons have an “open” design that is out of your ear. Not only does this increase comfort, it also means you can hear what’s going on all the time – a key safety feature for runners. Bose decided to allow you to be hyperconscious of everything around you was critical and, according to news editor Billy Steele, who reviewed the Bose Sport Open headphones, that means accepting sacrifices for sound quality. Cheaper, but …

Samsung has finally introduced an SSD 980 that is not part of the expensive Pro line, and it’s mostly good news for performance-conscious PC users – with one caveat. Achieving read speeds of up to 3,500 MB / s and faster writes (up to 3,000 MB / s versus 2,500 MB / s) than the 970 Evo it replaces, Samsung claims that it also offers 36% less power consumption, 54% more efficiency energy and better cooling, which should avoid overheating. However, Samsung is also abandoning the DRAM built into the 980, joining the ranks of lower cost SSDs. He is promising “identical” speeds to the fastest drives equipped with DRAM, in part using Host Memory Buffer technology to directly access the system’s RAM, but it is clear that this is a trade-off to keep prices low.

Those prices are low, thankfully. The 980 will start at $ 50 for a 250 GB model, $ 70 for 500 GB and $ 130 for 1 TB. Keep reading.

This is the concept of Nothing 1.

Nothing

We still know just a few things about Nothing, a startup of new hardware by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. One thing we know is that your first product will be wireless headphones, which we assume will tell you what we’re seeing above. The transparent casing of what appears to be a concept wireless headset is a nod to make tech devices less intrusive. The shape is apparently inspired by “a grandmother’s tobacco pipe”, which is at least different from the cut cotton swab look that symbolized the most popular wireless headphones so far. Nothing’s first products are launched this summer. Keep reading.

The company promises to share something “incredible”.

Two months ago, Samsung held an Unpacked event to announce the Galaxy S21, but the company is already sending out invitations to another event that it plans to hold on March 17 at 10 am ET. Keep reading.
