The Modern COVID vaccine increases facial cosmetic fillers in some

An advisory committee of the Food and Drug Administration noted that people with cosmetic facial fillers may experience side effects of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Several participants in the face-filling trial experienced swelling and inflammation after receiving the vaccine. A Los Angeles dermatologist said the reactions were caused by a dysfunction of the immune system.

Facial fillers help to smooth out wrinkles and enhance cheeks and lips.

“Your immune system, which causes inflammation, is accelerated when you receive a vaccine, this is how it should work,” Shirley Chi told ABC7 in a report on Thursday. “So it makes sense for you to see an immune response in certain areas where they see some substance that is not a naturally occurring substance in your body.”

Chi said the side effects were treated easily by the medical team and should not prevent people from getting the vaccine.

“In these cases, all patients had swelling and inflammation in the area that received the fill,” said Chi. “Some patients received cheek fillings six months before the vaccine and one patient had lip fillings two days after the vaccine. All were treated with steroids and antihistamines and all of their reactions were resolved.”

On December 18, Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine was the second drug to obtain emergency use authorization from the FDA. Pfizer and BioNTech agreed to produce a vaccine that was approved on December 11.

Moderna’s vaccine does not need to be kept in deep-frozen temperatures, so it is easier to store than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
