Mets owner Steve Cohen accessed Twitter on Monday night in reaction to the San Diego Padres, which was about to complete its second major deal in two days.

“Hey, give credit to the Fathers. They had a top 5 farm system that gave them the flexibility to trade for Snell. Newsflash, the Mets farm system needs to be replenished,” said Cohen.

On Sunday, the Fathers traded for a former Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Blake Snell Tampa Bay Rays. And from Monday night, it seems that the Fathers deal with the Chicago Cubs to begin Yu Darvish it’s almost official.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Cubs will have Zach Davies and four potential young people: DE Owen caissie (18), SS Reggie Preciado (17), DE Ismael Mena (18), Yeison Santana (20).

During the Tampa Bay deal, the Fathers gave up on a major launch prospect Luis Patiñocatchers Francisco Mejia and Blake Huntand right-handed prospect Cole Wilcox, by Passan.

Cohen clearly understands that to get a big name player through exchange, let alone two, you need to have a deep farm system that can trade young players.

The Mets are looking for a star this off-season, including the possible option to exchange SS Indians Francisco lindor. However, the team’s farm system was rated No. 20 by MLB.com with SS Ronny Mauricio (No. 57 in the Top 100) C Francisco Alvarez (No. 58), and 3B Brett Baty (No. 88) as the only potential customers in the Top 100.
