The MDH reports 89 ‘innovative’ cases of COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated; Ehresmann says ‘it’s not surprising’

“No, no, because the vaccine is not 100% effective,” she said.

Ehresmann said that so far, the MDH has interviewed 81% of the 89 people with “innovative” cases.

COVID-19 coverage

“There are 30 out of 72 cases [that] were symptomatic, meaning that 42 out of 72 cases had no symptoms, so I think it’s important to keep that in mind, “said Ehresmann.

She says it means that even if you get vaccinated, you can still get the disease, be asymptomatic and pass it on to someone else.

“That’s why we keep saying that even though you’ve been vaccinated, it’s important when you’re away from home, that you continue to mask, that’s why healthcare professionals still need to wear personal protective equipment at work, even though they were vaccinated, “she said.

The goal of the MDH is to vaccinate 80% of the Minnesotans. Ehresmann said that, once that happens, authorities and experts will reassess to make sure that Minnesota has achieved collective immunity to prevent the main spread.

“I am concerned about this race between vaccines and variants. We want to make sure that we can vaccinate as many people as possible,” said Ehresmann.
