Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday asked Congress to pass gun security laws following two recent mass shootings in the country.
Harris told CBS This Morning that President Biden was not ruling out executive actions on arms, but said, “If we really want something that is lasting, we need to pass legislation.”
“It is time for Congress to act and stop false choices. It is not about getting rid of the Second Amendment. It is simply saying that we need reasonable gun security laws, ”said Harris.
The vice president said: “I am not willing to give up what we must do to appeal to the hearts and minds and reason of the members of the United States Senate. I served in that agency and I believe it is possible, it must be possible for people to agree that these killings have to stop ”.
Harris said he believed the shooting at Sandy Hook, which killed 26 people, including 20 children, would have prompted Congress to act.
“Like, when 20 babies of 6 and 7 years old were slaughtered and they didn’t act, and they didn’t act,” said Harris.
Biden has faced increasing pressure to act with weapons after the last mass shootings in Boulder, Colorado, and in the Atlanta area.
