The Masked Dancer unmasks Cricket as a Grammy nominated star

The masked dancer spoilers to follow.

The masked dancer, the equally strange and wonderful spin-off of The Masked Singer USA, revealed the identity of the celebrity behind another of its competitors.

After the unmasking of Bill Nye and Elizabeth Smart, yesterday’s (January 20) episode of The masked dancer finally answered the question about who is behind the Cricket mask – and, again, one of the judges got it right.

After performing at Montell Jordan’s This is how we do, Cricket’s time in the competition came to an end, confirming the suspicion of Judge Paula Abdul that Cricket was none other than a singer and songwriter Brian McKnight.

Speaking for Variety about his time on the show, the 16-time Grammy-nominated artist admitted that he was initially expecting a call to participate in the The masked singer.

“I’m sure I’m not the only ‘celebrity’, in quotes, sitting at home watching these programs, saying, ‘Why didn’t I get the call for that? Did people forget about me?

“So when you get the call, you’re like, ‘Yes, I’m going to do The masked dancer! ‘”

As for the dance experience, McKnight revealed that his specialty has always been musical instruments. “I never thought that dancing was going to be part of what I was doing, so I never focused on that,” he said.

“I kind of move around on stage, I’m very self-deprecating on stage. I kind of dance, but not really.”

Reflecting on the challenges of acting in a giant Cricket outfit, he added: “Making dance moves complete with choreography was a difficult task for me.” We are not surprised.

The masked dancer continues Wednesday, January 27 on FOX in the USA.
