‘The Masked Dancer’ Recap: Episode 2 – Ice Cube Eliminated

If, on Wednesday night, you found yourself in need of a distraction from the events unfolding in Washington, DC, Fox had one to offer: celebrities dressed as various animals and food products, shaking their boots with abandon.

The masked dancer set his normal schedule on Wednesday, bringing with him five new competitors who tried to remain anonymous to viewers at home. Before letting go of your last guesses in the comments, let’s recap who we met in episode 2:

SLOTH | For most of Sloth’s performance and tips pack, I was pretty sure he was JoyMatthew Morrison: The word “Glee” appeared on a tube of toothpaste; his choreography included the L-shaped “loser” symbol on his forehead that appeared in many Joy Poster; and he played a doctor in Grey’s Anatomy, if that’s what the “DR” name tag on your package should suggest. In addition, although her routine started out a little slow and silly, it turned into a more intricate footwork in the second part, and it seems that Preguiça can dance very well!

But the Sloth’s Word Up track – “Broadway”, which would also apply to Morrison, and any of his Joy castmates – seemed to have a distinct accent, which Morrison does not have. The laziness could be just trying to confuse us, but I’m going back to the drawing board on that hunch – and there are still some other clues, like chemicals mixing in glasses and the number “13” in a red Solo cup, that don’t add up yet.

ICE CUBE | Fake herrings abound in the Ice Cube track pack, like the phrases “real time” (a Bill Maher HBO series) and “make it work” (a la project Runway) But although Judges Brian Austin Green and Paula Abdul Does I think Maher and Tim Gunn, respectively, are Ken Jeong who makes the same assumption as me: Bill Nye, the science guy.

In addition to clues like the periodic table of elements and a bag full of notes, the Ice Cube package includes a pair of ballet shoes – and as Wikipedia informed me, Nye holds a U.S. patent for high-top sneakers! Your Word Up tip (“90s icon”), general thinness and – with nothing but respect! – more or less dance ability (which he also exhibited in Dancing with the stars in 2013) seem to seal the deal: it has to be Nye, right?

Masked Dancer episode 2 recapZEBRA | Leaving aside broad boy band references, Zebra appears to be an athlete – a race car driver, perhaps? – who has since devoted himself to politics and / or career in Hollywood. My initial guess? NASCAR competitor Ryan Newman, who has a partnership with Oscar Mayer (the hot dog costume track!) And received support from President Trump (“Now the president knows my name!”); he was also involved in an accident at the Daytona 500 last year, which may be responsible for some of Zebra’s clues about “running out of water” or wanting to “go back to a higher gear”.

On the other hand, none of the numbers on the Zebra package – like the number “3” on a medal that looks like bronze, or the number “11” – seems to immediately link to Newman’s career, nor does it appear to have the showbiz politician or aspirations. that Zebra has indicated. I’m feeling a little lost (and I didn’t get help from Zebra’s cha-cha, which was more like … a wild beating?), But we still have a Word Up tip – “feedback” – to help us.

COTTON CANDY | Ooh, cotton candy is not here to play, friends. The girl can dance, which is not only indicated by her impressive routine – which featured aerial acrobatics! – but also for her entry on stage, in which she and her group did some perfectly synchronized leg pops.

Like Judge Ashley Tisdale, I thought Cotton Candy might be Julianne Hough, but her Word Up Clue (“prime time”) didn’t sound much like Hough. Other clues we have to work on: a breakfast platter, a chalk drawing of a wizard’s hat, a clock with the letters VIDA where there should be 12, 9, 6 and 5 and cupcakes decorated with lips and lashes.

MOTH | And finally, we have Moth, who tells us that he went from being relatively unknown to appearing in tabloids with the president. (Whether or not President Trump We also have a box with the label “Clothes”, a photo of the Capitol building (damn, the moment), mathematical equations and a painting of a nun with a halo over her head. And while some of the clues obviously point to Monica Lewinsky – the scandal, her second act as a social activist – that seems a little too easy on this point, doesn’t it?

At the end of the episode, Ice Cube is unmasked – and in fact, it’s Bill Nye! Wednesday’s episode mostly left me with the feeling of being the Underworld Detective, so I’m going to take that victory (and share it with Ken Jeong).

OK, your turn! Who do you think Sloth, Zebra, Cotton Candy and Moth really are? And did you guess Nye’s identity correctly too? Tell us below!
