“The Masked Dancer” revealed the identity of another dancer on Wednesday night, featuring none other than the survivor who became activist Elizabeth Smart.
-
“The Masked Dancer” – a spinoff of “The Masked Singer” – is a reality show where celebrities and stars in costumes compete in a dance competition.
What is happening?
On Wednesday night, the show hosted the Group B playoffs. Smart was revealed to be Moth after she failed to defeat her opponents in the dance round.
Why does it matter
Most of the celebrities revealed in “The Masked Singer” or “The Masked Dancer” were singers, athletes, YouTube stars and actors. Meanwhile, Smart became an activist for abuse survivors after she was kidnapped from her bedroom in 2002.
Why she did it?
Smart told host Craig Robinson that she participated in the show for fun.
- “My grandmother passed away a lot recently, but she was a lot of fun. She never missed a moment. And then, when this opportunity came up, I thought, ‘I live a very serious life and I’m going to take this opportunity and just have fun,’ ”said Smart.
- “It was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done voluntarily,” said Smart. “But it was a lot of fun. I mean, how often can a person say he has an entire team working with him every day, like five people working there to help make you the best you can be.”
Judge Brian Austin Green, who was the only one to correctly judge Moth’s identity, praised Smart for his courage.
- “I can only say that, from what you have dealt with in your life, you have been an inspiration to so many people and you have done very well in a really difficult situation, and we need more people like you on the planet. Thanks.”
