Hollywood studios continue to contain their biggest films amid the ongoing pandemic.
Liam Neeson’s action thriller The shooter remained at the top of the weak domestic box office in its second weekend, with an estimated $ 2 million.
There were no major new releases, as most Hollywood studios continue to delay their prominent titles amid COVID-19 and the continued closure of cinemas, including the top 10 cinema markets. Although smaller markets reopened this month, there was little difference. So far, ticket sales in January are 90% below last year, according to Comscore.
The shooter is directed by Robert Lorenz, a longtime contributor to Clint Eastwood, and earned $ 6.1 million in the first 10 days. Open Road, also home to the recent image of the Neeson pandemic Honest Thief, is dealing with the film internally.
Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods: The New Age wasn’t far behind The shooter. The family animated film grossed $ 1.9 million in its ninth weekend, with a domestic mark of $ 41.8 million and $ 139.8 million worldwide.

Wonder Woman 1984 ranked third on its fifth weekend with $ 1.6 million for a domestic total of $ 37.7 million. Abroad, it raised US $ 110.3 million, for a worldwide total of US $ 148 million.
In a controversial movement, Warners WW84 made the Christmas Day superhero sequel available on HBO Max and in theaters the same day because of the COVID-19 crisis and closed cinemas in many major markets.
At the international box office, Disney’s Soul posted strong openings in North Korea – where it marked the second biggest pandemic debut for a non-Korean title – and in Russia. The Pixar title has already grossed $ 71.2 million at foreign box offices in 13 materials markets, including $ 48.2 million in China.
Soul is only playing on Disney + in the United States and in some international markets.
