A team of VFX artists took on the responsibility of presenting their own version of a crucial scene at the end of season 2. The Mandalorian.

The Corridor Crew YouTube channel discussed the technology used to shape Luke Skywalker’s cameo in “The Rescue” and how to improve it. Most of the process used controversial deepfake technology to recreate Hamill’s face. The Corridor Crew posted another video in which they offered their reactions to official participation – and they were less than enthusiastic about the final product.

During the events of “The Rescue”, Luke Skywalker appeared to help Din Djarin and his companions when they were cornered by a squad of Dark Troopers. After defeating the Dark Troopers, Skywalker offered to train the Force-sensitive child in the Force’s ways – leading to a tearful farewell from Djarin. Mark Hamill, who played Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy and sequential trilogy, reprized his role as Skywalker. Skywalker’s appearance in The Mandalorian led to mixed reactions from Star Wars fans, with their digitally edited face being the most polarizing element.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Seasons 1 and 2 are now airing on Disney +.
