The hit Disney + series Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni The Mandalorian has been widely discussed on all social networks in recent months, with most of the controversy coming from actress Gina Carano. Carano – who plays the ex-mercenary and current Marshal of the New Republic of Nevarro Cara Dune – has been at the center of fans’ indignation and love for most of the second season. Recently, the pendulum whether fans are on Carano’s side or not has swung back and forth, with viewers falling on both sides of the controversy. The consistent negative perception may have some Star Wars fans wondering if Lucasfilm and Disney will reshape Carano’s Cara Dune or just completely dispose of the character in The Mandalorian Season 3 and its aftermath – Carano is currently expected to star New Republic Rangers, although nothing has been confirmed.
For months, the hashtag #FireGinaCarano has been featured on Twitter countless times. More recently, the hashtag reappeared after Lucasfilm issued a COVID-19 memorial Tweet, and also resurfaced after the Capitol insurrection occurred and Carano liked the tweets of apparent riot supporters. Originally, #FireGinaCarno was created due to what many consider to be controversial and candid political and social beliefs.

An unconfirmed report noted that Disney requested that Gina Carano issue an apology. Carano has not yet posted or said anything that might look like an apology and has responded to the recent reaction with a Princess Bride quote – it is not known, however, whether an apology was actually requested, so it may mean nothing.
That said, the last piece of art commissioned by Disney for The Mandalorian does not show her, one of the main characters of the show. We previously reported that fans noticed that Mark Raats’ art excludes Cara Dune from Gina Carano and seems to replace it with Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Clone Wars character, Ahsoka Tano (voiced by Ashley Eckstein / played in live-action by Rosario Dawson).

The intentional exclusion of Marshal Cara Duna from the New Republic may not mean anything important or anything bigger – let’s look at all the options.
As we mentioned, Carano has been the center of controversy for Disney for some time on many social media platforms. It is no secret for anyone to suggest that Disney, like any other company, does not like anyone with a negative image to reflect or tarnish their company. It may be that Disney and Lucasfilm are intentionally distancing themselves from Carano during what has been a moment politically directed to the United States. That said, distance does not mean that Carano would be removed from The Mandalorian Series.
Disney may also be thinking of replacing Cara Duna by Gina Carano. For the same reason mentioned earlier, it wouldn’t be too surprising to hear about Disney and Lucasfilm looking to replace the actress. Twitter user Loon (@BirdDisplayName) presented the possibility of a replacement, “I already said that; I’ll repeat: replace Gina Carano with Lana Parrilla. Nobody will notice. “

That said, there are many MMA and WWE fighters – such as the fighter Trish Stratus – who are both actors and fighters who could check the physicality that the role of Cara Dune requires. The third option would be Disney and Lucasfilm giving up the role of Cara Dune together. Removing a highly acclaimed and beloved actor and role from a franchise is something Disney has shown it is willing to do. Johnny Depp lost the role of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 after his ex-wife Amber Heard alleged domestic abuse charges against the actor, and Depp had many more Disney fans after years of films than debutant Gina Carano.

During the Mandalorian Season 2, episode 8 (Chapter 16: The Rescue), we saw Cara Dune (Gina Carano) alongside Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), as well as her warrior Nite Owl Koska Reeves (Mercedes Varnado / Sasha Banks), Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) , Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) – defeat Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and rescue Grogu (also known as Baby Yoda) from the Imperial ship.

The storyline between Bo-Katan and Din Djarin seems to be the biggest lingering issue for viewers, meaning that Cara Dune’s storyline could theoretically come to an end on the show. Like Nevarro’s New Republic Marshal, Dune has its own life separate from that of the characters who are trying to retake Mandalore, and even in Season 2, it was brought back into the show’s narrative for help. That said, we now have a plethora of characters, from Night Owls to Ahsoka, who could theoretically fulfill those duties.

However, there are many – fans and cast members – who supported Gina Carano throughout the drama. Carano not only found anger on social media, but also felt a lot of love for Star Wars and Mandalorian fans alike! # WeLoveCaraDune / # IStandWithGinaCarano has also been a trend in recent weeks, so while Carano may attract a lot of attention, it is clearly balanced.
Pedro Pascal, Katee Sackhoff and Ming-Na Wen have boasted of Gina’s character as a person and talent as an actress. In addition, there are unconfirmed reports that creator Jon Favreau is preventing Disney from firing Carano, which would imply that Favreau has greater autonomy than Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, for The Mandalorian ‘cast s.

So far, none of this has been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm and it is all speculation by the writer himself at this point. With the rumors that Carano should appear in New Republic Rangers, the controversies and the continuous silence on the subject leave all this simply theoretical at this point.
