The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been postponed to 2022, according to a PR email sent today, January 26.
The email, from Dead Good PR, announces a “scholarship” between Lord of the Rings: Gollum developer Daedalic Entertainment and NACON, which was officially announced as a co-editor. NACON has published several sports titles such as Rugby 20, WRC 9 and Tennis World Tour 2, as well as Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood and the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong. Buried in the announcement of the exchange is the phrase “Developed for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch and PC, the game will be released in 2022”.
Lord of the Rings: Gollum was announced in March 2019 and was scheduled to be released later this year on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5. It looks like the release date has been quietly postponed to some point in late 2021, but it is unclear why. We know that Lord of the Rings: Gollum to use lightning tracking and more new features on PS5, including the DualSense controller’s tactile feedback capability to denote when Gollum’s resistance is low. Perhaps the Daedalic team needs more time to ensure that the game shines on the latest consoles, hence the delay.
We talked to Lord of the Rings: Gollum devs explains why Gollum is such an interesting hero in August 2020, and the team opened up about the game’s combat system and minigames with dialogue options. Whenever this game arrives, it will certainly be one to watch. There is no set release date yet, but if Daedalic or NACON announces one, we will update it accordingly.
We still have a ton of new 2021 games to get excited.
