Matthew McConaughey starred in the film adaptation of The Lincoln Lawyer in 2011, and a version of the series, via CBS, was dropped in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Now, another version of the David E. Kelley series has found a new home on Netflix with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the lead role of Mickey Haller.

The first 10-episode season of The Lincoln Lawyer, based on Michael Connelly’s novel series, will focus on the second book, The Brass Verdict.

The creative team for the CBS version remains the same for the new incarnation with Kelley (Big Little Lies, The Undoing) and showrunner Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife) serving as writers and executive producers.

Connelly and Ross Fineman will also serve as executive producers.

With the cast of Mexican Garcia-Rulfo (The Magnificent Seven, De Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) for the title role, the series will honor the Latinx origins of history.

The Lincoln Lawyer revolves around Mickey Haller (Garcia-Rulfo), an iconoclastic idealist, who runs his law firm in the back seat of his Lincoln Town Car, while handling large and small cases in Los Angeles.

“Manuel is the ideal Mickey Haller, as Haller follows in the footsteps of his lawyer father with the performance of his Mexican movie star mother,” Connelly shared in a statement from Netflix.

‘Manuel brings a powerful dynamic and dimension to the role – one that aligns with the books and will give the program an opportunity to celebrate the Latinx heritage and roots of this Los Angeles-based story.’

Connelly added: ‘The series will be adapted to serve the complex and mysterious arcs that fans know and love with a mix of upbeat humor and a dose of family dynamics.’

Mickey’s role was scheduled to be played by Logan Marshall-Green in the CBS version. Mickey’s second ex-wife, Lorna, who would be played by Kiele Sanchez, will also be reformulated, according to Deadline.

The search for a director for the new series continues.

So far there is no news about the official premiere date.
