The left is ‘doing identity politics’ with Neera Tanden’s confirmation battle: Tammy Bruce

The complaints against senators who will reject the nominee for President Biden’s director of Budget and Administration, Neera Tanden, are an example of the left using “identity politics,” Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce said on Tuesday.

“Some of the complaints that we have heard is that it is because of your race and your gender is the reason your appointment is in trouble. That’s the most racist and sexist thing you can say because you’re arguing here that they shouldn’t be asking tough questions, they shouldn’t be pointing the finger … They’re just being mean, “Bruce told Fox. & Friends “.

The host of “Get Tammy Bruce” at Fox Nation pointed out that “many people of color and women” who “went through the Senate confirmation process are doing well”.

“People should realize that this is not just that kind of section of politics. It is about identity politics,” said Bruce.

NEERA TANDEN, XAVIER BECERRA UNDER FIRE WHEN BIDEN’S NOMINATES FIGHT TO SURVIVE CONFIRMATION BATTLES

President Biden is after two Cabinet choices facing difficult battles – including Neera Tanden, his nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget, and Xavier Becerra, his choice for secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services – as an increasing number of senators promised to oppose their confirmations.

Tanden’s confirmation appears to be the most threatened after several polling senators – including at least one Democrat – announced plans to vote against his confirmation. The former president of the liberal Center for American Progress was repeatedly criticized during her confirmation hearing, while Republicans pointed to the hostile tweets she posted against several lawmakers – many of whom she deleted last year.

During that hearing, Senator Ron Portman, R-Ohio, gave examples of “some of the thousands of negative public statements” that Tanden made. This included her calling Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, “the worst” and Senator Tom Cotton, R-Ark., A “fraud”, saying “vampires have more heart than Ted Cruz” and referring to if they- Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., as “Moscow Mitch” and “Voldemort”, referring to the Harry Potter villain.

Portman said that even after Tanden deleted tweets, there were still nine pages of posts about Cruz that were still up.

“I wonder, specifically, how do you plan to repair fences and build relationships with members of Congress that you attacked through your public statements?” Asked Portman.

Bruce explained that “the whole issue of identity politics” is “to argue that certain people shouldn’t have to answer questions and that they need to be treated differently”.

“This, again, comes into this argument, which is the sexist and racist argument that certain types of people need to be treated with kid gloves when, in fact, they can handle this arena,” said Bruce.

“I mean, it should be more about whether senators were insulted or not and where those people are and whether they are competent.”
