If you were planning to add the latest version of Grand Theft Auto to your list of mandatory games, it’s time to make alternative plans.
Prominent insider from Rockstar Games Yan2295 went to Twitter to say that while Grand Theft Auto VI is in development, it won’t be released anytime soon. This contradicts claims made last year, where the leaker said the game was much more advanced in development.
Last year, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg (who was with Kotaku at the time) reported that GTA 6 was still in development. He went on to clarify further in a tweet that was years away.
Yes GTA 6 is being developed. No, it won’t be soon. No, I don’t know when it will be announced or launched. You can stop asking now.January 2, 2021
Yan2295, who is apparently so good at leaking that 2K Games publisher asked him to stop, challenged Schreier’s report saying the game was much more advanced in development. Well, now he’s giving up on those claims.
Unfortunately, Yan2295 did not provide additional information. But considering that Grand Theft Auto V took five years to develop, an upcoming GTA 6 may not land until 2023, assuming that preliminary work began after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018.
Until then, Grand Theft Auto Online will have to be enough. However, we suggest that you try Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
