- IPhone 13 will feature an always-on display, which will allow you to quickly review notifications, battery level and time.
- Apple will feature several camera updates, including an enhanced ultra-wide-angle lens, an astrophotography mode and a portrait video mode.
- The design of the iPhone 13 will feature a matte surface with an improved grip, as well as stronger magnets for MagSafe charging.
A major leak from the iPhone 13 revealed an always-on screen, design changes and some new smart photography modes.
Being able to see the time and notifications without picking up the phone is common on Android devices, but it would be a novelty for iPhones. You can also expect Apple to extend its leadership in our list of best camera phones and some welcome design updates.
There is a lot of intriguing information from the last video posted by YouTuber EverythingApplePro and leaker Max Weinbach. However, the most interesting leak is the always-on screen.
IPhone 13 always on screen
The screen will look like a simplified lock screen and will always show the watch and battery level, comparable to the Apple Watch 6, and will offer some minor customization options.
To save battery, notifications will only activate the part of the screen where the alert appears, and only briefly before turning it off again.
Weinbach also said that the iPhone 13 Pro models can come with a 120 Hz LTPO screen, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S21. But this is a rumor that we have heard from several reliable sources.
iPhone 13 camera updates
We can expect some camera updates as well. The main hardware change is an ultra-wide camera better on all models. This is thanks to a new sensor, in addition to a six-piece lens (of five) that will help make photos less subject to distortion.
Within the camera application itself, Apple will present a dedicated mode of astrophotography. Similar to the way night mode is activated when you are in a low light environment, you will activate this mode when you point your phone at the stars or moon, with the settings helping to record the night sky in more detail.
The new final feature unveiled by EverythingApplePro is a portrait video mode. This will provide an unfocused background in the video recording when activated, but you can customize the depth of field after shooting so you can get it right. There are no specifications provided as to whether this can be used on any of the iPhone 13 cameras or just some.
iPhone 13 design adjustments
Since this year’s iPhone is widely considered to be just a small update to the iPhone 12, it is concluded that the flat-faced design will return. However, there are some differences in the store, according to EverythingApplePro.
Some models will receive a new matte finish with a “slightly more sticky texture”, comparable to the back of the Google Pixel 5. This probably refers to the Pro models, as the iPhone 12 Pro has a matte background while the basic iPhone 12 has a shiny finish, although Apple may decide to change that.
Below the surface of the next iPhone, Apple will be swapping current MagSafe magnets for stronger ones, making it easier to connect a MagSafe charger or accessory. Weinbach says these new magnets will not affect the thickness of the phone, although EverythingApplePro mentioned that the Japanese store MacOtakara said there will be a slight increase in thickness to compensate for the new magnets.
The video also mentions some other Apple accessories. AirTags will finally arrive in March or April, with the related software already released. In the meantime, the Apple Watch 7’s mental health tracking capabilities are ready for a 2022 release at the earliest.
