The notch of the iPhone may be here to stay, at least in the next models of this year. But that doesn’t mean that iPhone 13 The notch should remain the same size as Apple’s included in all of its latest devices.
MacRumors obtained a set of images from the Greek repair company iRepair showing three different panels of the iPhone 13 for a 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen, similar to the models that Apple included last fall iPhone 12 launch. But the notch in these images is smaller than anything we’ve seen before.
In addition to the smaller notch, it looks like the iPhone 13 headset has been moved to the top frame. This is a radical departure from what Apple has typically gravitated over the years, although many iPhone users have asked the manufacturer to reduce the size of the notch as new iPhone iterations hit the market.
We had been expecting a smaller notch on the iPhone 13 for some time. Over the course of several leaks and renderings, the creators hinted (and hoped) for a notch reduction, or a little change in some way to make the distinctive design of the iPhone less prominent.
More recently, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that new iPhone models would have their face identification components leaner in future iterations. However, a repositioning was not part of the plan, at least in those initial leaks.
Since Apple launched the iPhone X in 2017, there have been no changes to the notch. In the future, more than the notch will be affected, however, according to Kuo. In fact, Apple reportedly plans to launch a punch screen for some iPhone models in 2022, much like some of Apple’s competitors. After that, the company could even present an iPhone with the first all-screen design in 2023 – no notches to be seen here.
In terms of the design of the main phone, the iPhone 13 – or whatever Apple ends up calling a new device – it is rumored to feature a number of new options, with a newer A15 Bionic chip, enhanced cameras and a 120 Hz screen on Pro models.
All of this is speculation, of course, as Apple has yet to confirm anything about the iPhone 13. But there are likely to be many more leaks on the way by the September release date.
