The leak of the Glover N64 prototype causes misunderstanding with the rights owner

On February 6, 2021, Piko Interactive contacted the Twitter user, Forest of Illusion, requesting that the distribution of a Glover Prototype N64 ROM. The company, which currently holds the rights to Glover, also threatened with legal action. This is according to a tweet posted by Forest of Illusion. At this point, the conflict appears to be over and both sides suggest that it was the result of a misunderstanding.

Piko Interactive joked that a Glover the project was under construction on December 4, 2020, although specific details regarding the nature of the project were not revealed at the time. We now know that Piko Interactive is “… planning to launch an N64 cart along with other doors in a Kickstarter campaign.” The company questioned the launch of Forest of Illusion, fearing it would jeopardize the future launch of the cartridge. The misunderstanding came from the belief that the game compilations of Forest of Illusion and Piko Interactive were the same. The two constructions, however, have shown to differ in several ways.

Piko Interactive also said it supports preservation and plans to release “lots” of the games it has collected and purchased. The company also believes that the leak was beneficial in a way, as it led to the discovery of additional bugs by community members.

Piko Interactive has apologized for “showing itself to be a little strong” against preservation efforts.
