A new leak from Huawei P50 Pro shows renderings of a phone with, quite simply, some of the largest camera lenses we’ve ever seen on a phone. They are huge. Grotesque. We can’t wait to try them out.
Assuming they are real, of course – the leaks are not always accurate and there is less guarantee that the renderers represent the final design of a phone. But this leak is courtesy of the trusted Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as @OnLeaks, who unveiled the new design in Voice with an adequate warning for readers to prepare for the first images of the phone:
And here comes your first look at the # HuaweiP50Pro! You’re not ready … 😅 #VoiceCommunity # OnlyOnVoice @ VoiceHQ⭕️exclusive 👉🏻 https://t.co/5zy1evnGi8 pic.twitter.com/pmys6vbjYiMarch 10, 2021
Hemmerstoffer didn’t have any camera details to keep up with the images, so we don’t know exactly how big each of these two lenses really should be – but even looking at them shows that both lined up on a camera block take up to a third of the phone’s length .
Even more leak details
The Hemmerstoffer leak included other supposed information about the P50 Pro: it will have a 6.6-inch screen with slightly curved edges, a fingerprint sensor on the screen and a centralized hole for the selfie camera (as opposed to the two oval holes in the lens on the Huawei P40 line).
According to the leak, the top and bottom of the P50 Pro are flat, as well as the P30, and the alleged dimensions (159 x 73 x 8.6 mm) are slightly longer and wider than the P40, although I expect that the protrusion of the camera thickens the phone by 10.3 mm. Count on a rear glass panel and metal frame with speakers at the top and bottom.
This leak certainly opens the door on the P50 Pro; the few rumors we hear about whether the phone will be the first to come with the Android operating system Harmony, rival to Huawei pre-installed the shop floor. But now we’re wondering what these lenses could do – even phones in the old days, we remember having big cameras, like the Nokia Lumia 1020, in fact, it only had large camera blocks. We look forward to seeing more of what the biggest lenses ever included in a smartphone might be.
