In 2016 Square Enix released Final Fantasy VII and IX on Android, but VIII was still absent from the collection, a point of contention with fans in recent years. Well, out of nowhere, Square just released Final Fantasy VIII Remastered on the Play Store, and it goes on sale for $ 16.99 until April 4, when the price of the JRPG will go up to $ 20.99.

Above, you can watch the trailer for Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, and as you can see, this is the same as the remastered on PC, offering renewed character graphics, as well as new features like a battle wizard and a speed boost from 3x to relieve some of the grind. Unfortunately, the Android port does not contain controller support or cloud economy, although Square says it will add these features at a later date.

You can get the new Android version of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered for $ 16.99 until April 4 (so the price jumps to $ 20.99), although it looks like the PC version is currently on sale for $ 9.99, which ends Android sales for what is basically a 22-year-old game, especially when the Android port lacks necessary features like cloud rescue and controller support. In addition, once you take Square’s lackluster support history on Android into consideration, that $ 17 price tag and the promise of upcoming features are even harder to swallow.

Still, I’m sure there are a lot of eager fans out there who are more than willing to shell out $ 17 to finally complete their Final Fantasy game collection on Android. So, if you would like to get your copy today, while the game is on sale in celebration of its release, you can navigate to the Play Store list via the widget below.
