I know that big, noisy gaming phones don’t appeal to everyone, but you still have to appreciate it when a company bets on performance. That is exactly what Nubia did with the new Red Magic 6.

The basic model of Red Magic includes a huge, 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with 165 Hz refresh rate and 2400 x 1080 resolution, along with a Snapdragon 888 chip, 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage, depending on the configuration. Nubia even increased the Red Magic multi-finger touch sampling rate to 360 Hz to ensure that competitive mobile players get the most responsive input possible, while also including touch-sensitive triggers on the edge of the phone.

Nubia calls the explicit design of Red Magic Mecha Sci-Fi, which seems right. THE phone looks like it would naturally integrate into a Gundam episode. There is also a main camera of 64 MP enlarged by an ultra wide camera of 8 MP and a macro camera of 2 MP, with Nubia even presenting a variety of filters inspired by cyberpunk.

Nubia offers several software tweaks, such as Tencent’s Mobile Game Accelerator and Solar Core Engine, plus Red Magic’s RAM Boost and Frame Optimization 2.0 for extra sharp performance. And if that’s not enough, Nubia said Red Magic 6 features a multidimensional cooling system that uses 13 temperature sensors, an air duct, thermal gel, graphene and more to prevent the phone from overheating. There’s even one clip fan, which seems like an exaggeration to me, but I think you can nthere is always enough cooling.

Finally, the Red Magic 6 comes with a 5,050 mAh battery, a headset and 65 watt charging. But again, this is just the standard model. If you switch to Red Magic 6 Pro, you will have 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM, a faster cooling fan, 120 watt charging and a bonus aluminum heating plate for, you guessed it, more cooling. Unfortunately, the overall capacity of the Red Magic 6 Pro decreases due to this card, leaving you with a 4,500 mAh power pack.

But the real Mechazord is the Red Magic 6 “Dao” edition, which features a transparent back with an RGB-lit fan and a staggering 18GB of RAM, which is probably more to brag about than any kind of tangible performance boost. There are also some more obvious brands from Tencent so you don’t forget who helped collaborate on the device.

TThe Red Magic 6 is priced between 3,800 yuan (about $ 585) for the base model and up to 6,600 yuan (about $ 1,015) for the Dao edition fully loaded with 18 GB of RAM. But if you live outside of China and are serious about checking one out, you may want to postpone it for another 10 days, as Nubia has a global launch event for Red Magic 6 scheduled for March 16.
