The OnePlus 9 series is scheduled to debut in just a few weeks, and before launch, a major leak has just revealed the designs, colors and more details about the two main devices in the lineup.
WinFuture today published a huge gallery of images of the basic OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, showing how these phones will be different. As in previous years, this was obvious with the cameras. Although both phones have the Hasselblad brand on the camera module itself, the normal OnePlus 9 drops one of the camera’s sensors. It is not clear at this point whether it will also correspond to the Sony IMX789 and IMX766 sensors already confirmed for the OnePlus 9 Pro.
In addition, these two phones begin to form their own identities. The designs are very similar with fine bezels and a selfie camera with hole punch mounted on the left, but the OnePlus 9 has a flat screen where the design of the OnePlus 9 Pro adopts curved edges. This differs from the OnePlus 8 series, where both devices had distinct curves that Samsung phones have long offered. It is not a positive thing, but for some reason, it is seen as “premium”.
With regard to colors, the OnePlus 9 Pro is depicted in a smooth matte black, as well as a new shade of green. OnePlus also previously showed the phone in a silver option. The regular OnePlus 9, however, is depicted in black, silver and purple, the final option appearing to have a gradient in the reflections. Notably, all three have a glossy finish as well.
Notably, the OnePlus 9 lacks the antenna lines that are common in phones with metal side rails. They are visible on the OnePlus 9 Pro, but not on the regular model. WinFuture speculate this it could point to the phone using plastic on a part of its construction, much like the Galaxy S21. One can point to the Pixel 4 series with its side grills painted as an example of metal without antenna lines, but the shiny finish of the OnePlus 9 seems to suggest the opposite.
The OnePlus 9 series will be officially announced on March 23.
