The Last of Us HBO Show: Season 1 adapts the first game, but will ‘deviate a lot’ in some episodes

The Last of Us on HBO will raise dialogues directly from the original game, says executive producer Neil Druckmann, but will see some episodes “deviate a lot” from the events we played earlier. The Last of Us is the first of several PlayStation planned film and television adaptations, and with the roles of Ellie and Joel scaled up, one of the biggest questions remains how the HBO series will stick to the story of the original. Speaking to IGN during SXSW 2021, The Last of Us game director and executive producer Neil Druckmann, spoke about his and showrunner Craig Mazin’s approach to adapting the critically acclaimed original game.“We talked for a long time [that season 1 of the show is going to be [the first game], ”Druckmann explained, noting that for him and Mazin,“ the philosophical foundations of history ”were essential to getting the adaptation right. “As far as superficial things are concerned, how should [a character] Do you wear the same plaid shirt or the same red shirt? They may or may not appear in it, this is much less important to us than getting the essence of who these people are and the essence of their journey. “And while Druckmann couldn’t, of course, reveal much about the team’s exact plans for how the series will play out compared to the game, he explained that viewers will certainly recognize some dialogue – and will be surprised by much of the episodes.

“Things are sometimes quite closed. It is funny to see my dialogue there from the games in the HBO scripts. And sometimes they go a long way towards a much better effect, because we are dealing with a different medium, ”he said.

Result of the main PlayStation franchise

“For example, in the game, there is so much action that you need to train the player on mechanics. You have to have more violence and more show to some degree than you would need on a TV show, because you don’t need to train people on how to use a gun. So this is something that has been really different, and HBO has been great at pushing us to move away from hardcore action and focus more on the character’s drama. Some of my favorite episodes so far have strayed far from the story, and I can’t wait for people to see them. “

But, in addition, Druckmann did not want to spoil the experience of what is to come, just to say that “I can’t wait for people to see what we see in the people we gather”, referring to Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. But recently he saw one of the game’s main threats come to life.

“I just saw the first prosthetic test for the Clicker and it is incredible. It’s so cool to see this thing come to life physically, ”he said.
