The last ‘Mandalorian’ art excludes the character of Gina Carano

The Mandalorian Gina Carano – who plays the ex-mercenary and current New Republic Marshal Cara Dune in the success Star Wars series – has faced a great deal of online controversy in recent months.

Over The Mandalorian In season 2, the actress has consistently circulated on entertainment news sites due to her divisive tweets on a variety of social and political issues, including the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Carano’s followers are on both sides of these topics, with opposite hashtags – #WeLoveCaraDune, #IStandWithCaraDune and #FireGinaCarano – trends at several points. #FireGinaCarano most recently, again earlier this week, after a Lucasfilm post that honored those who lost their lives due to the coronavirus.

Carano – who received support from Mandalorian co-stars such as the protagonist Pedro Pascal (bounty hunter Din Djarin), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze) and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand) – have long been hoping to receive their own secondary series, probably in the form of New Republic Rangers series that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed during the Disney Investor Day 2020 event.

However, there have been unconfirmed reports that Cara Dune de Carano will only appear in the series if she submits an apology. Now, an online video has started circulating that supports the theory that Lucasfulm is distancing itself from Carano.

In a video posted yesterday [below], YouTube channel Itchy Bacca claims Lucasfilm artist Mark Raats has been asked to remove Carano from his official post Mandalorian art and replace it with the fan favorite Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Clone Wars character, Ahsoka Tano (voiced by Ashley Eckstein / played in live-action by Rosario Dawson), who made her debut in season 2, episode 5 (“Chapter 13: The Jedi”).

Dawson should receive his own spinoff show, titled simply Ahsoka.

Fans have now discovered the Star Wars the art in question on Raat’s official Twitter profile and Twitter users are beginning to question why Tano appears in the art and why exactly Dune was apparently removed.

The original December post says:

It was a great privilege to have been invited once again by Disney and Lucasfilm to create art for Mandalorian. Many thanks to @DisneyAUNZ and @Lucasfilm for the fun ride.

Yesterday, a Twitter user named Lee commented with his opinion:

Strange that you got rid of Cara … It seems obvious that Disney-Lucasfilm and its strange group of stories are with Gina. If Cara is going, there is not much to expect.

Evelyn said:

Beautiful work! However, how come there is no Cara? LF specifically asked you to exclude Cara from art?

Sophie simply wrote:

Please don’t remove Cara!

Another commentator shared these thoughts:

Excellent burnt piece, where’s Cara Dune? Do you love Ashoka, but Cara was instrumental in both seasons? And the magistrate was one of the weakest characters at IMO. Couldn’t you have chosen another villain if you needed balance? Odd comp options.

To date, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney executives have commented on this specific work or the future of the former MMA fighter with The Mandalorian.

Showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni also remained silent about Carano’s place in The Mandalorian saga advancing.

What do you think of this situation?
