Skinner says he will take his time with the recruitment process.

One of the state’s biggest prospects for the 2022 recruitment cycle is to take the time to make the decision process, and the two state schools are firmly involved.

Jaleel Skinner (6-5 200) from Greer (SC) is listed as the top tight end in the state of South Carolina and the second overall outlook in the state by 247Sports. Skinner would identify his shortlist of schools this week, but after consulting with his family and hearing about several new programs, Skinner decided to postpone this for now.

Because? He wants to get a little better reading on the academic side of things with some programs. He also wants to make sure he has the right schools that have the right position status for him in mind.

“I wanted to wait a little longer to look more closely and build more relationships with these coaches,” said Skinner. “I would like to make a decision before the football season. But I have no problem waiting a little longer. ”

South Carolina and Clemson are among Skinner’s offerings. The Gamecocks were on him during the Will Muschamp administration. New coach Shane Beamer and new receiver coach Justin Stepp will resume recruiting for Gamecocks.

“I want to build a relationship with them even more,” said Skinner. “I see that they hired coach Stepp, from Arkansas. He recruited me in Arkansas. I feel that it is a great addition to Gamecocks. I haven’t heard of him, but I really hope to hear from him soon. “

Clemson has also been a constant with the tight-ended trainer Danny Pearman mapping out the campaign for Skinner.

“I’ve been hearing a little bit from Coach Pearman,” said Skinner. “They had a difficult defeat. It happens to the best of us. He is saying that there is no better place than home. Clemson is on the right track. He’s telling me that I couldn’t do better, because they are one of the best teams in the country every year. “

A key recruitment point for Skinner is his position on the line. He sees himself mainly as an open player, but he knows that some schools consider him a tight end. Okay, too, but he doesn’t want his reception skills to be sacrificed by the block. He agrees with what Pearman said to him.

“They are telling me that if I get there, I would be more of a flexible type,” said Skinner. “I’m going to play a little further. Like a Kyle Pitts. ”

Along with Clemson and South Carolina, Skinner cited Miami, Florida, State of Florida, Virginia Tech and Tennessee as some of the other programs that had a strong presence with him at this time. It also has offers from Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina, Auburn, Arkansas, Penn State, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, Duke and Arizona State.

Last season, Skinner had 400 receiving yards and scored 6 touchdowns.
