The Los Angeles Police Department launched an internal investigation into police officers who allegedly share a Valentine’s Day-style graphic with George Floyd with the inscription “You take my breath away”
The nasty photo of Floyd, who died of suffocation while being arrested by police in Minneapolis last year, would have been “passed” through the department’s ranks, the LA Times said in a report.
“Our investigation aims to determine the accuracy of the allegations and, at the same time, reinforce our zero tolerance for anything with racist views,” police chief Michel Moore told the newspaper.
The chief said the culprits “will find my anger” if the investigation leads to them.
Police said a police officer in the department reported the image to authorities, requesting an investigation.
The department said in its LAPD HQ Twitter page that will have “zero tolerance”.
“At this point, the department has not identified any actual postings at the workplace or identified that it was actually our department employee who created the image,” said a post.
“We survey the apparent existence of the image and direct commands to inspect the workplaces for it.”
Floyd’s death in May. 25 sparked protests around the world calling for racial justice and against police violence against minorities.
