PUEBLO, Colorado (KRDO) – A jury found Donthe Lucas guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his pregnant girlfriend, Kelsie Schelling.
It took jurors only a few hours to deliberate the case on Monday, after weeks of testimony surrounding Schelling’s disappearance.
Donthe Lucas is found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Kelsie Schelling. The 21-year-old pregnant girlfriend has been missing since February 2013. The jury started deliberating around 1 pm on Monday and ended a few hours later. @ KRDONC13

Lucas was charged with killing Schelling, who was last seen in 2013. He was charged with murder in December 2017, and there were several delays before the trial finally started earlier this year.
During the closing arguments on Monday, prosecutors said Lucas had lied since the investigation began; Lucas’s defense called the state case “the longest stretch in Colorado history”, pointing to the lack of body or cause of death in Schelling’s disappearance.

Lucas will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the Public Ministry.
