A Texas florist who is facing charges for participating in the Capitol riot last month could travel to Mexico later this month, a federal judge ruled on Friday. Jenny Louise Cudd went viral earlier this week, when some news reports incorrectly stated that she had been allowed to visit the Riviera Maya, Mexico, for a retreat. At the time, however, she had only filed an application for permission to travel. On Friday, US District Court for District of Columbia Judge Trevor N. McFadden responded to his request to participate in the “work-related bond retreat.”
In approving the request, McFadden said that Cudd has no criminal record and no one suggested that it was a flight risk or that it could pose a danger to others. McFadden also pointed out that prosecutors did not object to Cudd’s request to travel. The judge ordered Cudd to “provide his itinerary to the pre-trial services supervision officer and follow all other instructions provided by the pre-trial services”.
There is no doubt that Cudd, who owns a florist who unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Midland, Texas in 2019, was on Capitol Hill at the time of the riot. She broadcast a live video of herself inside the Capitol, in which she says she “accused Capitol today of patriots”. In the video, she said that “we broke the door to Nancy Pelosi’s office” and seemed happy with herself for participating in the insurrection. “Hell, yes, I’m proud of my actions,” she said in the video.
Cudd also spoke about his involvement with the local media. “I personally didn’t break anything,” Cudd told Odessa American shortly after the uproar. “I didn’t break any doors. I didn’t do anything violent. No one I saw had weapons of any kind. ”In a television interview, Cudd expressed no regret, saying he would” do it again in the blink of an eye. ” In the interview with Odessa American, Cudd said he was not concerned about the consequences of his actions “because I know I did not break the law”. Prosecutors apparently disagree with Cudd. At first, she was charged with two misdemeanors, but then they brought additional charges. A grand jury indicted Cudd on five counts.
