The January update improves the automatic brightness on the Pixel 5 / 4a / 5G

Google is following the huge drop in Pixel Feature last month with a bug fixer. The January update addresses six issues for the Pixel 5 and other current Google phones.

An exclusive audio fix for the Pixel 5 is “further adjustments and improvements to the volume level of the system sounds”, while “speaker noise in certain scenarios” has been addressed for the Pixel 4a 5G.

Google’s 2020 devices – including the Pixel 4a – also receive “additional improvements for automatic brightness response in certain light conditions. All three phones use ambient light sensors under display.

All other smartphones (Pixel 3 / XL, 3a / XL. 4 / XL, 4a, 4a 5G and 5) receive the following enhancements:

  • Fix for issues that cause relocation reboots in certain applications
  • Further improvements to the automatic rotation response in certain device orientations
  • Fix for call prevention issue on certain MVNO networks

Touching the button to check for an update in the system settings pulls the OTA immediately. On the Pixel 5, this January update reaches 27.23M, which is more considerable than normal.

Meanwhile, the latest Google phones fall to just two versions. Following up to five at the end of last year, there is now only one Verizon specific patch and the variant for all others. In addition, the update from the U.S. operator should be available today, instead of delaying a week.
