The iPhone 13 is expected to have an updated ultra-wide camera with significantly better performance in low light

All four iPhone 13 models will have an upgraded Ultra Wide camera lens with an aperture larger than ƒ / 1.8, compared to ƒ / 2.4 on iPhone 12 models, Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Thomas O’Malley said in a statement. investor note shared with MacRumors.

In an investor note with TF International Securities in November, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also stated that the Ultra Wide lens will be upgraded to a ƒ / 1.8 aperture, but only on iPhone 13 Pro models, so there are conflicting information as to how many models will receive the lens update. Kuo expects the updated Ultra Wide lenses to expand to the rest of the iPhone’s main line in the second half of 2022.

A wider aperture would allow more light to pass through the lens, with the movement of an aperture from ƒ / 2.4 to ƒ / 1.8 probably resulting in significantly better low light performance when shooting in Ultra Wide mode on iPhone 13 models.

Barclays also said that the updated telephoto lens of the iPhone 12 Pro Max will expand to the standard iPhone 13 Pro, with a focal length of 65 mm and an aperture of ƒ / 2.2, a move that should benefit chip maker Cirrus Logic, a time it will provide Apple with a camera controller for an additional iPhone model starting later this year.

Apple expects to maintain the same screen sizes and camera settings for the iPhone 13 line, including 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models with dual-lens cameras and 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models with triple lens cameras. Other rumors of camera features include the expansion of the LiDAR Scanner and image stabilization by sensor shift for more models.
