Apple suffered a little by not including a charger in the box with the iPhone 12. But what if the iPhone 13 also doesn’t include a charging cable? This could very well happen, as several leaks pointed to at least one iPhone 13 Pro model without a door this year.
Presumably, the iPhone 13 Pro without ports would charge via MagSafe, ending any dreams of USB-C support for Apple’s flagship. We also saw some reports that Apple could add a Touch ID sensor to the iPhone 13 screen. And now a new video concept is bringing these and other rumors to life.
Made by Hacker 34, the intriguing but somewhat rude YouTube video is only 1 minute long, but contains several alleged updates. The video starts with the expected leap from the iPhone 13 Pro to a higher refresh rate of 120 Hz for the screen. Apple is behind this feature – phones from Samsung, Google and OnePlus already offer quick update screens – so it will be nice to see the iPhone 13 catch up with the competition.
In front of the camera, the video promises a faster main f / 1.5 wide camera, a 12MP ultra wide-angle camera with autofocus and a 7-element telephoto lens with the same 12MP resolution.
But the biggest update to this iPhone 13 concept is the addition of a Touch ID sensor, which would be built into the bottom of the screen. The facial ID would still be on board, but now you would be able to easily unlock your iPhone with a mask, without the iOS 14.5 trick of having to use your Apple Watch.
Unfortunately, the notch is still present in this iPhone 13 design, but it shrinks as it becomes shorter. So you still have all the ingredients you need for Face ID – including an infrared camera, flood light and spot projector – but in a smaller space.
To feed all that, Apple’s A15 Bionic chip would be, with 15 billion transistors and a “50% faster neural motor”, but this is pure speculation.
Although the back of the iPhone 13 Pro in this video is similar to the current iPhone 12 Pro, the video shows a new feature called PowerDrop, which would allow you to charge other devices by placing them on the back of the phone. Therefore, it is possible for you to charge your AirPods Pro with the iPhone 13. However, a recent report says that Apple has given up on adding reverse wireless charging to this year’s iPhones.
The “one more thing” in this iPhone 13 Pro video is that there is no door at the bottom. You simply see two sets of holes for the speakers. I’m not sure if consumers are ready to switch to MagSafe and other wireless chargers altogether. For example, it is good that you can connect your laptop with a USB-to-Lightning cable if you are running low on juice.
Regardless, if any company is willing to leave more resources in the editing room, it’s Apple, just like it did with the headphone jack. We just have to see how buyers will react if the iPhone 13 Pro portless becomes a reality.
