The Internet comes together for an incredible Jam session on the Wii Shop channel

Composer, musician and YouTuber Alex Moukala released a funky, bass-tastic remix of the Nintendo Wii theme song on Twitter yesterday and then invited other artists to do the same. The result is an impromptu jam session full of super talented people showing their love for one of the most peculiar songs in the game.

Moukala, whose music appeared in movie trailers like Avengers: Endgame, and who can be frequently spotted on his YouTube channel breaking your favorite video game soundtracks, kicked off adding a new funky bass line to the Wii console’s home menu music.

The Italian composer then called on others to join them, sharing the necessary sound files for them to contribute their own music. “I think that would sound even better with more instruments, so I invite any musician to join me and post his music with a #MiiChannelJam hashtag!”

It didn’t take long for many other musicians, including some responsible for their own incredible video game music, to respond:

Sonic Mania the composer Tee Lopes also joined, as well as heavenly and Sackboy: a great adventure composer Lena Raine, who added her own synth spins:

The jam session continued. Violinist and songwriter Jeff Ball, who worked on Steven Universe and also made music for several games, including Timespinner, added his own disco-y take:

Currently, each track is separate, but Moukala says he can compile them into a single remix later in the week. For now, it is really cool to see so many talented artists riffing a classic from the game. The Internet! Sometimes it’s not shit and in fact it is very incredible. Wrote Moukala, “This is the video game equivalent to a Sea Shanty and I love it!”
