Hitman 3 Support for lightning tracking is in development for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, along with plans to bring graphics technology to the PC.
Hitman 3 currently does not include support for lightning tracking on any platform, but IO Interactive confirmed before launch that it was working to bring it to the PC in a future update. In a new Xbox Wire Post On optimizing Hitman 3 for Xbox Series X and S, IOI chief technology officer Maurizio de Pascale said he is also on the roadmap for Microsoft consoles.
“We see Hitman as a ‘live game’ and our January 20 release date is just the beginning of a journey, in which we will continue to work on the game and add new features,” explained Maurizio. “It’s great that the X | S Series GPU has hardware support for lightning tracking. We’ve already started working on RT technology for the renderer on our Glacier engine, and as soon as it’s ready for prime time, we’ll certainly bring it to the hardware of the X | S. Series “
In another part of the interview, de Pascale also explained how the new console hardware allows Hitman 3 to update its NPCs more often and in greater numbers (meaning that more people scream and start running when you drop a chandelier on your target), as well as simulate more detailed cloth and destruction effects.
Better lights and shadows are something to be expected by Xbox fans, although we have also contacted IOI to see if ray tracing support is planned for the PS5 version of the game. We will update this story if and when the studio comes back to us.
