The Hawk and the Winter Soldier take Marvel’s most adult rating

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier does not arrive at Disney + for another month and some changes, but the series is already treading unknown waters for Marvel Studios. While much can change between now and March, the series starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan received its first rating, and is on par with Marvel Television’s darker entries. Kijkwijzer – the Dutch film and television rating board – listed the series as a “16+” property due to “violence” and “crude language”.

As u / VirinR – the Redditor who first identified the classification – points out, it is a classification similar to that of TV-MA in the United States. Other notable properties that have been awarded the Kijkwijzer 16+ rating include Reckless Second season, Jessica Jones Second season, Django Unchained, and The Game of Thrones Seventh season.

Prior to that, all other Marvel Studios content ratings received a rating greater than 12, including sitcom thriller WandaVision. For WandaVision, the first batch of episodes was rated for TV-PG before being changed to a rating for TV-14 in the past few weeks.

If the rating is maintained without any further editing, it will mark a noticeable change in the content released by Kevin Feige and his team at Marvel Studios. That said, the producer registered when confirming the Dead Pool the franchise will remain classified strictly while it is still being defined in the Marvel cinematic universe and the shift to a more adult programming would have to happen at one point or another.

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script now, and Ryan is overseeing a script now,” Feige shared earlier this year.

“It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy and very successful actor. We have a number of things that we have announced that we need to do now, but it is exciting for this to have started. Again, a very different character type in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just incredible to see him bring that character to life. “

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier debuts on Disney + from March 19.
