The Gimbal camera returns, now with Carl Zeiss

Vivo X60 Pro official

  • Vivo launched the Vivo X60 series in China.
  • The two phones share many features in common.
  • Expect the X60 Pro Plus to be unveiled in late January.

The Vivo X50 series marked a step forward for the brand in some ways, as the Vivo X50 Pro in particular delivered a micro-gimbal camera configuration. This resulted in excellent image quality in low light and video recording without flickering.

Vivo confirmed that the X60 series would arrive before the end of the year, adding that it would offer a camera configuration designed in partnership with Carl Zeiss. Today is the day, as the company has already launched the X60 and X60 Pro in China.

Vivo X60 Series: What to expect?

Vivo’s two phones share several features, such as an upper mid-range Exynos 1080 SoC, 33W charging and a 6.56-inch FHD + 120Hz OLED panel with a center-mounted drill cutout (hosting a 32MP sensor). The company also released a camera system developed in partnership with Zeiss, and the two phones share resources in this department as well.

Expect to see a 48 MP camera with a second generation micro-gimbal setup, a 2x 13 MP portrait lens and a 13 MP ultra-wide trigger (120 degree field of view) on both phones. But the Vivo X60 Pro also gets an 8MP 5x periscope zoom lens capable of up to 60x digital zoom. Interestingly, the brand is also adding a feature to restore black and white photos and the ability to color those photos.

Other notable shared features include a fingerprint sensor on the display, camera-based facial unlock, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1 and Vivo’s OriginOS Android skin.

Vivo X60 Pro Colors

On the other hand, the two phones differ in several other areas, with the Pro featuring a 4,200mAh battery versus the slightly larger battery of the standard 4,300mAh model, and a curved display versus the vanilla variant flat panel. The X60 Pro also has a glass back with a satin finish that does not attract the fingerprint grease. In addition, the 48MP main camera of the Pro variant has a huge f / 1.48 aperture compared to the f / 1.79 aperture of the standard variant.

Expect to pay 3,498 yuan (~ $ 536) for the 8GB / 128GB Vivo X60, 3,798 yuan (~ $ 581) for the 8GB / 256GB option and 3,998 yuan (~ $ 612) for the 12GB / 256GB variant. Meanwhile, Vivo X60 Pro will be sold for 4,498 yuan (~ $ 689) for the single 12GB / 256GB variant.

There is no information on the global availability of these phones, but Vivo confirmed on Weibo that it will launch the X60 Pro Plus in “late January 2021”. The company suggested a Snapdragon 800 series processor in tow, probably the Snapdragon 888 SoC.
