The Genshin Impact event asks players to yell at KFC employees for pins

The Genshin Impact is huge – big enough to receive ‘fast food promotional’ treatment. Chinese KFC locations are offering a variety of Genshin Impact-related goodies with their purchase, including pins featuring Noelle and Diluc from the role-playing game. To get a badge, however, you need to yell at the unfortunate KFC employees and, well, things are getting weird.

The promotion has been going on for a while now, and the in-game bonuses (such as a single glider, which will eventually be made available worldwide) were reason enough to win a little extra chicken. But this weekend, the promotion also includes a pair of collectible pins, and players are already lining up to be the first to receive them.

The lines appear to have grown so long that the police have been called in to disperse the crowd, in accordance with COVID’s persistent restrictions. And, well, this image of a figure of Noelle being carried under the flashing lights of a police siren will haunt me until the day I die.

As Asian game market analyst Daniel Ahmad explains about Twitter, “To get the KFC themed Diluc and Noelle badges, you must go to a KFC employee at the store and say out loud ‘meet in another world, enjoy delicious food’. Then, you will receive the brooch with your meal. “

Some players have rushed to get the pins, but are still taking the “talking out loud” part too seriously.

Very seriously.

This is not the first time that KFC China has entered into game promotions. Remember FFXIV’s Black Fat Chocobo? Fried chicken and online games are an incredible combination.
