The Genshin Impact 1.3 update includes a free character, new boss and more

Genshin Impact is an incredible game, arguably one of the best games out there. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, whether you’re someone who regularly buys in-game items or if you’re a completely free player – the game has enough content to keep everyone entertained. Game development studio Mihoyo is now adding more content to Genshin Impact with the v1.3 “All That Glitters” update scheduled for February 3, bringing a new character, new events, a new boss and a way to get a Character 4 stars, as well as several free Primogems.

You can watch the trailer above to catch a glimpse of all the new changes, or you can watch the full stream in English, where all the notable changes are expanded, or read while we summarize everything to come in the new update. The full changelog for the update hasn’t been released yet, so there should be some minor changes, bug fixes and likely quality of life improvements included as well.

New 5-star character: Xiao (Anemo, Polearm)

This update is bringing a new 5-star character in the form of Xiao. From the details given, we know that Xiao is an Anemo character wielding a Polearm.

Impact of Genshin - new character of Xiao with gunpowder Anemo

5-star characters are usually intended to be “premium” characters and, consequently, Xiao will also receive his own banner that will increase the chance of pulling the character through the loot boxes.

But, as we mentioned that Genshin Impact is quite generous for free players to be well, all players will receive 10 free interwoven destinations simply by logging into the game for a few days, which they can use in this banner to try their luck in pulling this new character. Xiao will share his banner with Keqing, as there are no new 4-star characters in this update.

Free 4 star character

Although there are no new 4-star characters in this update, Mihoyo is offering all users a free 4-star character through the special event “Stand by Me”.

Genshin Impact - Free 4 star event

All players who complete the event can choose a 4-star character from Xiangling, Xinyan, Beidou, Ningguang, Xingqiu and Chongyun. Although no details have been offered on the tasks of the event, we can expect it to be somewhat challenging, but still very workable for all players.

As for the character you should select as a reward, we suggest first choosing a character you don’t have instead of getting a repeated character for your Constellation. Xingqiu is a good choice due to its extra “Flash of Genius” talent that gives you a 25% chance to refund a material count of all the manufacturing materials used. Over time, this will be really beneficial through your leveling grinds. Alternatively, you can also point to C4 Xiangling or C1 Ningguang if you already have all of these characters.

Lantern Rite Event

Lantern Rite will be the highlight event of this update, divided into a few stages. Completing these phases will give you an event-specific currency that you can use in the event-specific store to exchange Character Rise fragments, Experience books, Mora or the Powder of Azoth (new material).

Theater Mechanicus – Tower Defense mini-game

As part of the Lantern Rite event, we have a new tower defense mini-game. The trailer suggests that players will be able to create, position and update different towers with different elements and mechanics along the way.

Just like defense games, hordes of enemies will try to get in the way. Your objective will be to prevent them from reaching the end of the path. Genshin Impact is adding its own twist to this, allowing you to also take the field with your own character and help eliminate any bottlenecks or just move faster.

Cousin Geovishap – New boss

Impact Genshin - new chief of Primo Geovishap

Primo Geovishap is a new boss who comes to the world of Genshin Impact. This beast appears to be an extremely powerful form of the annoying Geovishap Hatchlings. Adding a twist to the story is the fact that this boss can switch between different elements. More details are expected about the boss’s mechanics, but it sure changes things about how the group’s settings will be adjusted depending on which element of the boss you’re facing. The boss will be unlocked through an investigation mission that will also pay some Primogems and Mora.

Bursts of the driven Ley line

Through the new update, Mora and Experience Ley Lines will have a 2x drop for the first collection. Therefore, you can spend 20 resin and get 2x normal production on your first collection. This will be a significant boost for players who are working to raise the level of their characters.

Miscellaneous Changes

These are some of the less interesting changes. There will be a new tab in the File section that will show living beings and their models, as well as how many times you have defeated these enemies so far. The player profile screen is also being updated, allowing you to choose up to 4 characters to show your friends. The Alchemy section will now also allow you to transform crystals from one element to another using Azoth Powder. It is not clear how easy or difficult it is to obtain this new material, but it can change the way players have to face annoying bosses. Another event will require you to take pictures of certain things using the in-game camera tool to obtain Primogems and other rewards. There is also a Parametric Transformer gadget to be obtained, which will allow you to convert items from one to another.

There is also a small browser mini game that you can play right now to get some rewards.

The new update will be released on February 3, 2021, and we can expect events to occur staggered throughout the month.
