The gap between the Destiny 2 trials and the dusk ordeal weapons is wide

This week is a great high-level loot chase in Destiny 2. We saw the launch of Grandmaster Nightfalls, and the surprise reactivation of Trials of Osiris with the extremely powerful hand cannon that way, with a 3 win / failure reward.

But I have to say that in the initial Ordeal / Grandmaster loot offering here, if this is something like Trials, but, on the PvE side, I’m just not seeing it.

For trials, we have:

Shadow price – An assault rifle with an archetype in a terrible location.

The Swarm – A machine gun that is not significantly different from most others, and MGs are not exactly what you are dedicating to your heavy slot machine most of the time in PvE for obvious reasons.

The palindrome – Perhaps the most sought after of the group, but a below average archetype in the era of the 120s.

But tests? Trials withdrawal is currently out of control. Desperado Messenger. Two-strike fiery hammer. Astral is more or less the only viable non-sunset primary PvP shotgun. A chain reaction sword. A fusion rifle with a completely unique charge advantage. A rocket launcher with several god roll options. A sniper who still has Vorpal. The list goes on and on.

Weapons of trial have Bottomless Pity, a new privilege that is the PvE equivalent of Rapidity. And since Rapidity is garbage, it is also garbage. In addition, there is little to make the GM’s loot look powerful or unique, even with the right versions. The new Big Ones mod is a good start, but it is best used with … equipment suited for Trials, most of the time.

Perhaps this is just the beginning. The withdrawal of the tests did not start like nothing all that special, I suppose, with Astral really being the only thing that anyone cared about for a while. But I kind of hoped they learned from that for the launch of GM’s loot of supporters, and that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Maybe that will change over time, but now I certainly don’t see any point in working with GMs to get that loot specifically. And in lower layers, which are more cultivable, I can even get drops of “god scroll” as a Feeder Frenzy / One for All the Shadow Price and still be … bad, given the location where that kind of gun is, and certainly not. There is no exclusive benefit with the new single, Bottomless Grief, being something that you actively want avoid.

If the Trials loot can evolve, I believe the Ordeal / Grandmaster loot can, too. But now I think the scales are tilted in favor of Trials, which is why you see PvE players jumping off cliffs behind a hand cannon instead of running Nightfalls this week. I hope that this will change in the coming seasons and that this loot will be coveted as much as the Trials loot now.
