The GameStop / Reddit stock saga is already being made into a movie

Although the status of GameStop / Reddit’s actions is not over, the rights to a film based on these events are already underway. As reported by Deadline, MGM acquired the proposal for the book The Antisocial Network from New York Times bestselling author Ben Mezrich. This book will attempt to tell the story of “a disorganized group of amateur investors, players and Internet trolls who have brought Wall Street to their knees”.

Insiders said that Mezrich and his representatives also proposed the book to the market last week, and by Friday night MGM had acquired the rights to a film adaptation. This project will bring together Michael DeLuca and Mezrich from MGM, who worked together to adapt the Accidental billionaires: the foundation of Facebook, a story of sex, money, genius and betrayal in what would be known as the Social Network.

Mezrich also wrote the book Knocking down the house: the inside story of six MIT students who took Vegas to millions, which was later adapted for the film 21.

GameStop’s stock price was hovering around $ 3 per share in 2020, but after a battle between short sellers and the subreddit r / WallStreetBets, the stock’s value increased by more than 1,700%. At the time of this writing, the share price was $ 325 USD.The shares of AMC and Nokia also saw a huge increase, and these developments have led to stock trading apps like Robinhood to halt controversy in trading these volatile stocks.

Although it is unclear how this story ends, Hollywood is already preparing to make money from one of the biggest stories of the year.
