The Galaxy Z Fold 2 One UI 3.1 update adds new features

Samsung’s job to improve folding is mostly on the hardware right now, but in the past year, the company has also released a lot of new software features. With One UI 3.1, Samsung is adding some new features to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, including a useful multitasking feature.

In a blog post, Samsung revealed four new tweaks to the software on the Galaxy Fold 2 that will come with the next update. There is a new tweak to the video call apps that allows users to put the phone in flexible mode and have the top half of the screen display only the video of the person they are talking to. In similar improvements to the flexible mode, Samsung adjusted the position of the controls, as well as added delete and share buttons to the viewing area.

Interestingly, Samsung has also added a new “palm touch” gesture, which can turn off the cover screen or the main internal display with a palm touch or a double touch. However, this needs to be enabled manually.

The biggest new feature in this update is “Enhanced Multi-Active Window. This expansion of Samsung’s multitasking feature improves the way you can switch between applications. Now, a collection of two or three apps will appear on the multitasking overview screen as one app instead of three, keeping the layout in place as well. Notably, it’s the same functionality that you see on iOS when using split-screen viewing on an iPad. Samsung has also added a multi-window window shortcut to the One UI 3.1 Quick Panel on the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

A 3.1 UI is set to start rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 soon.
