The Galaxy S21’s unique camera feature can still reach older flagships

One of the best features of the Galaxy S21’s camera may soon reach older phones through firmware updates. We are referring to Director’s View, which remains exclusive to the Galaxy S21 series since it launched earlier this year.

The first family of Galaxy devices that will soon be able to take advantage of the Director’s View update could be the Galaxy S20. Not only is it a direct predecessor to the Galaxy S21, which makes it a prime candidate for the update, but T-Mobile USA has also apparently revealed Samsung’s plans.

T-Mobile USA recently updated its Galaxy S20 support pages to include instructions on how to use Director’s View. Of course, the feature is not yet available, so it strongly suggests that T-Mobile prematurely added these instructions before the update could be released.

There is also a remote possibility that T-Mobile made a bigger mistake and these instructions should never have been added to the Galaxy S20 support pages, but it is doubtful. Samsung has a history of bringing new core features to older devices through firmware updates, so perhaps Director’s View will be treated the same way.

As to when the update can be made available – if it stays – is anyone’s guess. A 3.1 UI was released for the Galaxy S20 series last month and the firmware did not include Director’s View or other features like Zoom Lock and the Google Discover home screen.

What is the director’s vision?

Director’s Vision is a new camera feature that debuted with the Galaxy S21 series. It is quite simple and does not need a detailed explanation, although it is quite a big addition.

In short, the Director’s View allows users to view real-time images from all of the phone’s cameras on the display. Users can switch between camera lenses by touching the thumbnails on the left and can switch to a close-up view by touching the thumbnails on the right.

In other words – and as the name implies – Director’s View gives users much more control over the cameras they are using when recording a video and can be a very useful feature for content creators. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more about its possible launch on older Galaxy flagships.
