Some of the biggest football clubs in the world have collaborated with the extremely popular online game for the latest update
Football is coming to Fortnite with a new update from Epic Games, including the Pelé Cup and collaborations with some of the biggest clubs in the world.
The ‘Kickoff Set’, launched on January 23, will include 23 club kits as playable skins, a new tournament with real and in-game prizes and the chance to ‘thrill’ as the icon of Brazil Pelé.
Twenty-three clubs from around the world, including Manchester City, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan, Santos, Los Angeles FC, Melbourne City, Celtic and Rangers (full list below) will have men’s and women’s clothing specially designed for the game.
Players can win the new kits at Copa Pelé on January 20, with a football game mode for a limited time, and play with the new Football Island from Creative Mode.
‘Pelé’s Air Punch’, a new emote based on the celebration of the Brazilian legend’s goal, will be available for purchase at the store or as a prize at the Pelé Cup.
Regional tournament winners will receive a signed Santos jersey, while the 3,500 best players from each region will win the Pelé’s Air Punch emote and a selection of character outfits.
Nate Nanzer, global head of partnerships for Epic Games, explained the collaboration for ESPN: “We thought about the evolution of Fortnite and all the different IP integrations that we did and bringing all these different worlds into the game, I think we did an incredible job in movies and comics.
“Batman plays with Deadpool and Wolverine and Iron Man. We bring all of these incredible worlds together.
“But in sports, we had an incredible partnership with the NFL, but we didn’t do much beyond our partnership with the NFL. Last year, we were really focused on how we can increase our presence in sports.
“There definitely can be things that we will do with modern football players in the future, and I think, given that many of them are big Fortnite fans, there may be some fun things that we will do in the future.”
