The first Pixel Buds update has arrived in months

The last Pixel Buds update we saw appeared in September to address a strange bug that involved audio cuts after specific periods of time. It was the latest bug fixer for an expensive product that doesn’t seem to be on stable ground. Today, another update is here that only increases the number of version 1, so I think we are dealing with more bugs and not much more.

The new Pixel Buds 2 update is being released (via reddit) as version 553 and should be available to everyone immediately. I was able to pull the update after not touching my Pixel Buds for several weeks.

To check the update and start the process, connect your Pixel Buds to the phone, open the Pixel Buds app, tap “More settings” and “Firmware update”. Make sure that “Automatic updates” are enabled or you may want to disable and enable them again. After that, you kind of listen to your Buds for a while (or at least leave them out of the case) to let the update download in the background.

After listening for a while (10-15 minutes) and assuming an update is ready to be installed, you put your Buds back in the case and the update will be installed. There is still no status for this process, so you kind of have to trust Joel Embiid.

If we find something new or Google posts a changelog, we’ll let you know.
