The first OnePlus smartwatch promises a two-week battery and fast charging

After months of provocations, OnePlus is ready to fully reveal its first smartwatch. In addition to showing the flagships of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, the company gave us a look at the watch simply called. It costs $ 159, runs the OnePlus operating system itself and offers more than 110 training modes, in addition to allowing you to view notifications and messages from your phone. But the most interesting feature is the speed of loading. OnePlus is applying its Warp Charge technology to wearable and promises to give you a full day’s juice in five minutes.

This is faster than most current smartwatches, which take a long time to charge. With light use, OnePlus estimates that you will be able to take two weeks off the watch, while heavy use reduces that run time to seven days. However, thanks to the 5 watt recharge rate, you can get power for a week in 20 minutes.

With this kind of estimated battery life, the OnePlus Watch falls more into the fitness weariness territory (like Fitbit and Garmin watches) than multipurpose smartwatch (like Apple Watch or Wear OS devices). The operating system is not something we have seen or tested, so we cannot yet say how powerful it is. But in addition to the training modes, the watch also offers more than 50 customizable displays and will do basic things like showing the weather and answering calls, for example.

Like many modern fitness wearables, the watch will be able to monitor your blood oxygen saturation, guide you through breathing exercises, alert you to abnormal heart beats, and automatically detect when you have started running or running. The integrated GPS also allows you to map your routes without the phone.

It will also sync with a new OnePlus Health app that will be available on Android in late March, and the company said it will sync data with Google Fit and other services as well. For now, the watch only works on Android, and OnePlus said that iOS support will come in a future update. Another upcoming update is the ability to use the watch to control the OnePlus TV set.

The watch itself features a round, slightly curved 1.39-inch AMOLED display in a 46 mm stainless steel case. This is relatively large, considering that most smartwatches start with 38 mm or 40 mm models and, for now, OnePlus is not offering other sizes. The company said the face is made of “specially treated sapphire glass, with a Mohs rating of 9, for greater luster and exceptional scratch resistance”. It is also rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, as well as 5ATM water pressure.

Although there are Moon Light Silver color variations and a “limited edition” cobalt alloy available in different regions, those in North America will only be able to purchase the Midnight Black version. The OnePlus Watch hits stores on April 14 on the company’s website and, for $ 159, offers an attractive feature set for the price.
